A mechanical pipefish seahorse steampunk machine

2016

32cm tall x 18cm wide x 4cm deep (approx 12.5″ x 7″ x 1.5″)

Mixed media assemblage

A steampunk-ish steam powered pipefish. This one has an attached copper machine with pipes, cogs and black sails. Pipefish are real creatures – they’re basically seahorses but with long thin bodies like eels. This one’s shape is somewhere between a seahorse and a real pipefish.
I sculpted the body with epoxy resin, the machine is a combination of wood, metal and plastic pieces with copper paint and a verdigris medium.
