A takahe New Zealand bird with pilot fish in a deep sea diving suit

2021

36cm x 34cm (approx 14″ x 13″)

Acrylic, gouache, watercolour and pastel on Arches 300gsm paper

Pilot Fish were once thought to be guides – leading sharks to food, or ships to land. We can put our trust in those meant to guide us and we can fly their colours, but they may only be using us for personal gain.
This bird is a takahē, a chonky flightless New Zealand bird with deep blue/green plumage and a bright red beak.
