A crowned heron spears a shark with orange crabs

Acrylic, gouache, watercolour and pastel on Arches 300gsm paper

“When those in power convince us we have more in common with them than others living far more similar lives to us, we can watch others being disadvantaged and oppressed without empathy.”

I started this one knowing I would be working with blues/greys and oranges/reds together. The bird is based on a grey heron, the crabs are based on Chesapeake Bay blue crabs who have wonderful pointed edges to their shells.
