This was painted for a themed group show to celebrate Just Another Agency’s 12th birthday – 54 artists were randomly given oversized playing cards to work on.
The 2 of hearts card symbolises love and the search for a soulmate. My deep sea diving bird is based on the Royal Spoonbill – during breeding season they grow a tuft of feathers at the back of their heads and brightly coloured patches on their otherwise dark grey faces. This one’s suit has a heart pattern and he’s on a deep dive looking for someone special.
I used metallic coppers and bronzes for the suit collar and weights.
